Norma Purdy

January 25, 1927 — April 21, 2020

PURDY, Norma Lee Redd, age 93, of Birmingham, Alabama, died April 21, 2020. She is preceded in death by her husband Grover Anthony Purdy, Jr. She was a member of St. Barnabas Catholic Church for 55 years and a member of St. Mark the Evangelist Catholic Church for 10 years. She was a member of the altar sodality and made all infant baptismal bibs at St. Barnabas Catholic Church and was a member of the prayer shawl ministry at St. Mark the Evangelist Catholic Church. She loved to read and once claimed she had read every book in the Mt. Laurel Library. She made beautiful quilts and was awarded many first-place ribbons in quilt shows. She was a knitter and made gorgeous prayer shawls for the sick. She played bridge every Thursday with a group of very special friends. She also loved to plant flowers and watch birds in her yard. Burial will be at Jefferson Memorial Gardens East in Trussville, AL. A private graveside service will be held on Saturday, April 25, 2020 at 1 p.m. and will be officiated by Father Martin Muller. The family plans to have a memorial service at a later date. Survivors include sons: Michael A. Purdy (Carol) of Atlanta, GA; Joseph W. Purdy (Bonnie) of Belton, SC; Steven T. Purdy (Laura) of Trussville, AL and Tom P. Purdy of Homewood, AL.Daughters: Nancy P. Tillery (Galen) of Birmingham, AL and Teresa M. McLendon (Jay) of Trussville, AL. Grandchildren: Justin (Thao) Purdy and Christopher Purdy of Atlanta, GA.; Jennifer Miller (Brandon) of Birmingham, AL; Jessica Holden (Matt) of Birmingham, AL; Jamie McLendon of Nashville, TN; Leigh Ann Pritchett (Robert) of Springville, AL, Michelle Hanks (Kolby) of Trussville, AL; Brittney Purdy of Orlando, FL; April (Lyle) Dempsey of Wellford, SC; Travis Purdy (Jordan) of Belton, SC and she was blessed with eight great grandchildren. Memorials may be sent to St. Mark the Evangelist Catholic Church, Building Fund, P. O. Box 380396, Birmingham, AL 35238 or St. Barnabas Catholic Church, School Endowment Fund, 7921 First Avenue North, Birmingham, AL 35206.
