Nellie Adams Hartzog, 90, passed away on Friday, December 27. Mrs. Hartzog was born in Trussville, Alabama in 1923 and resided in the Birmingham area until moving to Lafayette to be near her daughters. She was extremely athletic and enjoyed tennis and softball in her younger years and was an active member of her local bowling league. Her love for animals especially, her dogs, remained a huge part of her life. Survivors include two daughters Deborah Wetzel and her husband Gary of Lafayette, Louisiana and Sharon Broussard Prejean and her husband Michael also of Lafayette; five grandchildren, Raegan W. Gupta, Shelley W. Smith, Andre P. Broussard, Ada Lisa Broussard, and Amelia Broussard; four great grandchildren, Thomas D. Smith, Caleb M. Broussard, Kush Lal Gupta, and Nathan P. Smith, and her beloved niece, Sandra Bishop Carroll. She was preceded in death by her husband, Ewell Foy Hartzog; her parents Marion Aden Adams and Effie Abernathy Adams; two brothers, Kent C. Adams and Marion Aden Adams, Jr., and two sisters, Anne Adams Bishop and Cary Jo Adams Cook. Services will be held at Jefferson Memorial Gardens Chapel, Gadsden Highway location, Birmingham, Alabama on Tuesday, December 31. A family viewing will be observed from 12:30 to 1 pm followed by visitation from 1 to 2, concluding with a service from 2 to 3 pm. The family would like to thank the staff of Garden View Assisted in living in Lafayette for their love and care over the past two years and Southern Care Hospice.
