Mozelle Speights Thayer, age 89, passed away May 9, 2013. Affectionately known as Granny Moe, she was dearly loved and will be missed but is now in a far better place with her Lord and Savior. She has now joined her husband, Eli J. Thayer, a veteran of WWII, her son David E. Thayer, a veteran of Vietnam and many family and friends in heaven. She was raised in Pinson, Alabama and graduated from Jefferson County High School in 1941. After WWII she moved to Michigan, the home of her husband Eli, where they lived for many years. Upon his death, she returned to Pinson, Alabama. One of her joys in life for many years was teaching young Sunday school children. She would often quiet them children with a pointed finger and God's phrase "Be still and know that I am God". Granny Moe is survived by her daughters Donna Light (Tom), Carolyn Sue Snider (Leon); daughter in law Joyce Thayer; grandchildren Deborah Scott (David), Herb Dugger (Cynthia), Jeff Dugger (Tommie), David B. Thayer (Laura), Krista Lay; 13 great grandchildren, 7 great-great grandchildren; sisters Ermith Cassady, Clara Fleming, Kitty Corbett, brother Bennie Speights, and very special friends Pastor Herb Harbaugh and wife Phyllis, and numerous other family members. Chapel services will be held on Monday, May 13, at 12pm with burial in Jefferson Memorial Gardens East. Visitation will be one hour prior to services.
