Reverend Morris Harmon (Buddy) Mohon, 71, passed away Thursday, May 14th, 2009 at the home of his son in Townley, Alabama. He was preceded in death by his parents, Jack R. Mohon, Sr. and Verdi Huffstutler Mohon, one sister Faye Mohon Stallings, and one brother Jack R. Mohon, Jr. Survivors include his wife of 50 years, Melva Jean Shoemaker Mohon, his three loving sons, Jeffrey T. Mohon, Daryl S. Mohon and D. Duane Mohon and his four special daughters-in-love, Laura Mohon, Sandra Mohon, Sharon Mohon, and Corrin Crum. Also included are his six grandchildren, Kandice Hughes, Jakob Mohon, T.J. Wright, Megan Mohon, Mason Mohon, McClane Mohon, and his grandson-in-love, Jason Hughes. Survivors also include, his two great-grandchildren David and Kayla Hughes, several nieces and nephews and a host of friends. Brother Buddy, as he was affectionately called, was born in Locust Fork, Alabama and grew up in Pinson, Alabama. He was a Vietnam-era veteran serving in France from 1961 to 1962 in the 117th United States Air National Guard Reconnaissance Wing stationed in Birmingham, Alabama. Prior to surrendering to the call to the ministry, he was employed by Ingalls Iron Works in Birmingham, Alabama. Later, he became a partner at Pinson Valley Fabricators, Inc. He was an alumnus of Samford University in Birmingham, Alabama and received his degree in theology from Southwestern Baptist Theological Seminary in Fort Worth, TX. The Reverend Mohon was a caring pastor for thirty four-years and was currently serving Northside Baptist Church in Andalusia, Alabama. He previously served the Lord's call in Acmar, Alabama, Lone Oak, Texas; Carbon Hill, Alabama; Pinson, Alabama; and Bessemer, Alabama. He also served in leadership positions in the local Southern Baptist Associations and he served happily on the Alabama Baptist State Board of Missions. Brother Buddy was a wonderful, caring husband, a proud loving father, grandfather, great grandfather and a loving pastor. He will be missed by all who had the privilege to know him - And to God be the glory! Services will be Monday, May 18, at 10am in the Chapel with burial in Jefferson Memorial Gardens Trussville. Visitation will be from 5:30 until 8pm Sunday. In lieu of flowers, the family requests any memorials be sent to the church of your choice or to the Gideons International to spread the saving word of Jesus Christ our Lord and Savior.
