Mildred Hooper

d. May 17, 2014

Mildred was born on Sept. 6, 1927, and passed away on May 17, 2014 at the age of 86. She was a long-time resident of Birmingham, AL She was preceded in death by her husband of 65 years Walter David "Dave" Hooper; mother, Floy B. Kay; brother, Sammie L. Kay She is survived by her only daughter, Sherry Hooper Roberts. Mildred was a devoted wife for 65 years, and even more loving and caring mother. She was loved by many friends and family. In the last few years her greatest joy was to ask most everyone she met if they had ever been to the Barber Motorsports Museum. She loved to tell them that her husband, my daddy, and his love of motorcycles played a big part in the very beginning of Museum. On occasions, she would mention that one rainy day in the late 1940's in New Orleans, soaked to the bone, sitting in an old school house, waiting for the rain to stop, some of their old motorcycle buddies nicknamed her "Sunshine", and since then she's been a "shining light" to us all. "Rest in peace Momma, you're with Pop now! I'll see you both in that magnificent home in Heaven". A heartfelt "thank you" to Kathy Glenn for taking such good care of Momma these last three years. Funeral service will be at 2pm on Monday, May 19th at Jefferson Memorial Chapel. Visitation will be held from 1pm until 2pm at the funeral home. Burial will immediately follow at Jefferson Memorial Gardens in Trussville.
