Melba Jean Gray, age 82, of Birmingham, passed away June 2, 2015. She was a farm girl gone to the city in her young days. She was voted the All Citizens award from her High School in Fayetteville, TN. Melba also worked at The Knoxville Journal News Paper. She was longtime community leader and was a Jayceette in Huntsville, AL where she held all offices. She moved to Baton Rouge, LA where she was given the Key to the City by the Mayor, she was a member and President of Sherwood Forrest Garden Club. Then moved to Upper Arlington, OH, worked at the House of Fashion, and Sanitation and Police Departments. After that Melba settled in Birmingham, and worked with her husband and son at Center Point Wholesale Transmission for over 30 years. She was on the board at Center Point Chamber and was Vice President for 4 years. She was The Huffman Heartwarmer's Travel Club Escort for 20 years. She was an active member of Huffman United Methodist Church, was a member of Huffman Chancel Choir, President of Fellowship Class and a Lioness. She was preceded in death by her husband William V. Gray, parents Raymond O. and Ruby Otalene Sowell. She is survived by her two sons Michael V. Gray (Mattie), Mark W. Gray (DeDe), grandchildren Adele, William, Emelie, Amanda (Justin), and one great granddaughter Chloe, numerous nieces nephews, cousins and friends. Funeral services will be held on Saturday, June 6, at 10am at Huffman United Methodist Church with burial in Jefferson Memorial Gardens East. Visitation will be Friday from 5pm until 7pm at the Church. Jefferson Memorial Trussville directing.
