Maxine Kanaday Mitchell died on January 21, 2017 at her home in Margaret, Alabama surrounded by her loved ones. She was preceded in death by her parents, Onis and Lizzie Kanaday, husband Thomas B. "Dot" Mitchell, son Michael T. Cox, brothers Houston and Austin Kanaday. She is survived by daughters Dixye (Tom) Terry of Lincoln and Lynn Cox of Margaret, sister Eloise Caldwell of Trussville, daughter in law, Lana Cox of Mary Esther, Florida, step-brothers Alex Nick of Tulsa, Oklahoma and Johnny Nick of Hanceville. Mrs. Mitchell is also survived by grandchildren Lee (Laura) Terry, Brian (Robin) Robillard, Andy (Lisa) Terry, Jennifer (Jonathan) Witcher, Howard X. Kurgan, Elizabeth (Derrick) Carlisle, and Susan (Brad) Adair. She was blessed with ten great grandchildren, Jonny, Ian, Makayla, Liam, Cooper, Wren, Skylie, Dylan, Addison, and Ava. She had many beloved nieces and nephews. Mrs. Mitchell attended Macedonia Baptist Church #1 in Margaret and served as treasurer and taught a special class of ladies called "The Merry Belles". She worked as a registered nurse for 30 years at South Highland Infirmary, later named Health South. Services will be January 25, 2017 at 10:00 a.m. at Jefferson Memorial Funeral Home in Trussville followed by graveside services. Pat Giles and Tom Terry will be officiating.
