Mary "Mimi" Vernon Nannie Thompson, age 90, of Birmingham, AL, died Sunday, January 9, 2011. She was preceded in death by her husband of 56 years, John C. Thompson. She was a member of First United Methodist Church, Birmingham, and a former member of East End Methodist Church, Nashville, TN. She retired from Corroon and Black Insurance Brokerage Firm in Nashville, TN after 20 years of service. After retirement, she and John moved to Birmingham to live closer to family. While in Birmingham, she enjoyed serving as a volunteer for St. Vincent's Hospital and First United Methodist Church, participating in Community Bible Study, and especially spending time with her grandchildren and great-grandchildren. She is survived by her twin daughters, Terri (David) Glasgow and Trina (Allen) Ramsey; five grandchildren, Terilane Ramsey, Tim Ramsey, Doug (Yun) Glasgow, Deanne (Mike) Moers, and Trent (Jennifer) Ramsey; eight great-grandchildren, Davis, Anna and Laney Moers, Aubrey Ramsey, Theresa and Noah Glasgow and Abraham and Maria Ramsey; sister, Mickey Phelps of Los Angeles, CA; and sister-in-law, Dorothy Vernon of Nashville, TN. A Celebration of Life Service, with visitation following, will be held on Thursday, January 13, 2011 at 12:00 in the chapel at First United Methodist Church of Birmingham. The family expresses special thanks to Odell and Diane Spencer, Pat Files, Pam Johns, and the nurses and staff of EastGlen. In lieu of flowers, the family request memorials be made to First United Methodist Church Music Programs and Radio Ministry or to East End Methodist Church of Nashville, TN.
