Mary Magdalene Rodda was born in Birmingham, Al, the 3rd child of 12 children born to James Henry and Geneva Rodda. She met and married her husband Floyd E. Bryant Sr. Mary and Floyd had 2 children whom they greatly loved, Mary Elaine and Floyd E. Bryant Jr. Mary worked as a nurse in Birmingham and retired in 1995 from Baptist Medical Center East. She owned and operated the Irondale Barber Shop for 33 years where she was greatly loved, respected and treated like family by the community. Mary enjoyed her customers and enjoyed laughing and sharing stories. She was a fixture in the Irondale Community. Mary was recognized in various news publications in Birmingham. She had a great sense of humor and always had a funny story for her customers whom she adored. Mary’s passions were her 2 children, her grandchildren and many travels all over the world. She leaves a long legacy of family and friends who will cherish her memories forever. She will be greatly missed by many nieces, nephews and other family and friends. Mary is survived by her daughter Mary Elaine Turner, her sisters Elizabeth Shaneyfelt, Sarah Jackson, Carolyn Johnson (Howard), her beloved grandchildren Johnny Payton (Melissa), Greg Payton (Christy), Rebecca Pouncey (Phillip), Jennifer Graziano (Michael), Kimberly Bryant Smith, Christy Bryant Smith, Trey Bryant and Brandon Bryant, who will greatly miss their grandmother whom they all lovingly called “Nanny”. Chapel services will be on Thursday, May 24 at 2pm with visitation from 5pm until 7pm Wednesday.
