Mary Lucille Parks "Lucy" passed away on Sunday, August 25, 2008. Lucy was born to Roy and Ines Edwards, in Scott Arkansas and was a graduate of Scott High School. Lucy was married to J.K. Parks. Survivors include son Bob J. Parks (Diane) of Birmingham, AL., grandsons Brady Parks (Vicki) Trussville AL, Barry Parks (Kande) Homewood AL, David Parks (Jennifer) Malaysia, great grandsons Matthew and Michael Parks of Trussville, granddaughters Corrie and Anna Grace Parks of Malaysia, Emily Ann and Shelby Parks, of Homewood AL, nephews Reese Gateley, Albuquerque NM, Johnny Gateley of Little Rock AR, Michael Zinberg, Los Angeles CA, great nephew Jordan Gateley, Albuquerque, NM, sisters Hazel Rhodes (deceased), Barbara Wells (Richard) of North Little Rock AR, brothers Copeland Edwards (deceased), Charles Edwards (Louise) of North Little Rock AR, and many cousins nephews and nieces in Arkansas. Lucy was a church Financial Secretary at the following Baptist Churches: Immanuel Baptist, Little Rock AR, First Baptist Church, Jackson MS, First Baptist Church, New Orleans LA, and Second Ponce de Leon Baptist Church, Atlanta GA. She was employed as a bookkeeper at the John Pittman Agency-New England Insurance Co., Birmingham AL, where she retired in 1981. Lucy was a member of the Mountain Brook Baptist Church and a member of the Fellowship Sunday School Class. She was an active Life member of the Trinity Medical Center (formerly Baptist-Montclair) Auxiliary for 25 years. During World War II, Lucy was employed by the Military Post Office, Camp Robinson, Ark. She was a member of the civilian basketball team where she won First Place in the 8th Service Command Free Throw Basketball competition and placed Fourth in the National Service Command. After the war, she was employed at the Ark-Lin Motor Company, Little Rock Ark and played on their softball team for several years. Lucy was a gracious lady, wonderful mother and a lovely caring companion. She was married to J.K. Parks for 69 years and 11 months and would have celebrated their 70th Wedding anniversary on September 22nd, 2008. She will be remembered as a loving and giving person who cared deeply about others. Services will be on Wednesday August 27, 2008 at 2pm at Mountain Book Baptist Church with burial in Jefferson Memorial Trussville. Visitation will be Tuesday from 5 until 8pm at the Church. In lieu of flowers memorials may be made to The Lucy Parks Memorial Fund at Mountain Brook Baptist Church 3631 Montevallo Road Birmingham AL 35213. Jefferson Memorial Trussville directing.
