MARTIN, MARY S age 84, of Trussville, Alabama passed away on October 28, 2010. A loving wife, mother, and grandmother, she was married to her beloved Wilbert, who survives her, for over 63 years. In addition to her husband, Mary is survived by daughter Sherl (Woods) and husband Larry of Trussville, and son Alan and wife Cheryl of Birmingham. She is also survived by her grandchildren, Ryan Martin of San Francisco, Brad Woods, of Birmingham, Lindsey and husband Tal Simpson of Atlanta, and Lauren Woods of Birmingham, and Jeffrey Woods of Auburn. Mary was preceded in death by her parents, John Clyde and Esther Sapp of Hanceville, Alabama. She was also preceded in death by her two sisters Nell Bradford and Aileen White. Mary will always be remembered by her husband, children, and grandchildren as "MiMi." MiMi was a loving wife, mother, and grandmother. Her quick laugh, loving and sweet nature will be forever preserved by the family that will always cherish her. Mary, who was a Registered Nurse, graduated from Saint Vincent's School of Nursing prior to her career. Soon after graduation, she was employed by Alabama Power and served as a dedicated employee of Alabama Power Company for over 30 years, ministering to all of "her boys" who were injured at work or just needed "Nurse Mary" to take care of a variety of minor illnesses. This, she always did, with a sense of care and friendship. Mary was very proud of her role as a Nurse and loved caring for those in need and developed a loving following from her patients who were also her friends. When Mary came home from work and was unusually quiet, her family knew one of "her boys" had been injured and she was upset and would tell us all about it soon. She often reflected on her career with Alabama Power and spoke of her time there with great pride.
Prior to declining health, Mary was a dedicated member of Huffman Baptist Church for over 50 years. As her health deteriorated, she has lived for the last year and a half at Saint Martin's in the Pines along with her husband Wilbert. Mary will be remembered and cherished by many people beyond her family members. Her Church friends, neighbors, and too many employees and retirees of Alabama Power to count, will always remember her as a kind, generous friend and a professional Nurse who loved people and her family, friends and work. Visitation for Mary will be held on November 1, 2010 from 1pm until 2pm at Jefferson Memorial Funeral Home. A chapel service will follow visitation also at Jefferson Memorial. Interment will be private for family members. Jefferson Memorial Gardens East.
