Mary Amelia Caudle Hamby passed away Monday, August 4. She was 90 years old. After attending Phillips High School, she graduated from the University of Alabama in 1949 with a BS in Fine Arts. She received a Master's degree from UAB in Education and taught at Centerpoint Elementary from 1967 to 1989. Mary was a member of the First United Methodist Church of Centerpoint where she worked with the church youth and taught Sunday School from 1966 to 1977. She was a regular supporter of the Birmingham Humane Society and the Alabama Wildlife Center. She is survived by her husband of 63 years, Fred Franklin Hamby, Jr.; her two sons, Fred Franklin Hamby III, Henry Thomas Hamby, and her daughter Mary Elizabeth Hamby. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to First United Methodist Church of Centerpoint. Visitation will be from 11am until 12pm on Wednesday, August 6, at Jefferson Memorial Gardens in Trussville with services to follow. Burial will be at Wynnville Cemetery in Snead, Alabama.
