Mary Roberson Camp, 76, loving wife, mother, grandmother and friend, died June 20, 2018 at St. Vincent’s East in Birmingham, Alabama. She was the beloved wife of James Kenneth Camp ( Jimmy) with whom she shared 56 years of marriage.
Born in Cullman , Alabama on February 25, 1943 to the late Robert and Sophie Roberson, she was the only girl and youngest child in a family with three older brothers. She attended Sacred Heart Catholic School for twelve years where she developed lifelong friendships.Her faith was important to her and as a young girl considered becoming a nun but life led her in another direction. On December 26, 1962,in a beautiful winter wedding at Sacred Heart Catholic Church she married the love of her life. After marriage, they moved to Birmingham and later had two children , Mary Allyson and James Kenneth Camp Jr.Mary enjoyed spending time with her family and friends, going on camping trips and shopping for hidden treasures in thrift stores and antique shops. For many years she taught children and young adults with behavioral, emotional and family issues. She reached out to those with the most needs and provided love, understanding and support.
Mary was preceded in death by her parents, Robert and Sophie Roberson, brothers, Robert C. Roberson and James C. Roberson and her beloved son, James Kenneth Camp Jr. She is survived by her husband, James K. Camp (Jimmy) daughter, Allyson Scott , brother, William Roberson,three grandchildren, Jennifer, Ashley and Ken and five great grandchildren.A Mass of Christian Burial will be on Monday, June 25, 2018 at 11:00 am with visitation prior to the Mass at 10:00 am. Rev. Father George Maniangattu will be officiating. Interment will be at Jefferson Memorial Cemetery in Trussville.In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations be made to St. Barnabas Catholic Church in Birmingham, 7921 1st Avenue North , Birmingham,Al. 35206.
