Martha Kilgore

Martha Watkins Kilgore, of Birmingham, beloved wife, mother, sister and "Mossie" to her children and large extended family, passed away July 13, 2009 at age 75. She was a lifelong member of McElwain Baptist Church where she taught Sunday School was actively involved in the Loving Touch Ministry. She retired after 47 years with Protective Life Insurance Company where she was the manager of the Pension and Payroll department and upon retirement, served as vice-president of the Protective Life Retirees. She was preceded in death by her parents, Arthur and Edna Watkins, infant sister Barbara, and infant brother Arthur. She is survived by her husband, Lawrence H. Kilgore, daughters Carolyn Kilgore and Laura Kilgore, sister Mary Watkins Wilhite, nieces Penny (Mike) Urbanek, Martha Hilley, Katie (Charles) Powell, Ruthie Wilhite, great nephews and nieces Joe Abuhakmeh, Katie Urbanek, Rachel Hilley, Alex Hilley, Isabella Powell, Caroline Urbanek , very dear friend Marjorie Mann, many "adopted kids" and her beloved dog and devoted walking companion Sophie.

Services will be held Thursday July 16, at 11:00 a.m. at McElwain Baptist Church with burial in Jefferson Memorial Gardens East. Visitation will be from 5 to 7 p.m. Wednesday at the funeral home. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Loving Touch ministry of McElwain Baptist Church or the charity of your choice. Jefferson Memorial Trussville directing.
