Martha Woodward Holcomb, 65, died May 19, 2011, with her family at her side. She was born October 4, 1945 to James Walter Smith and Erma Dean Smith. She was a longtime resident of Birmingham, and lived in Pell City with her husband, Charles Donald Holcomb at the time of her death. Martha enjoyed gardening, and being involved in the life of her church, Hepzibah Baptist, in Talladega, Alabama. Martha was a committed follower of her Lord, Jesus Christ. As much as Martha enjoyed her church, her work, and other activities, her main joy in life came from her family. She was dearly loved and will be missed by all who knew her. Funeral services will be held Monday May 23, at 11am in the Chapel with Rev. John Coates and Rev. Barry Holcomb officiating. Visitation will be from 5pm until 7pm Sunday. Mrs. Holcomb was preceded in death by her father, James Walter Smith and her husband, Larry Frank Woodward Sr. She is survived by her husband Charles Donald Holcomb, mother and father Erma and Sam Jones, brother Allen (Fran) Smith, sister Polly (Joe) Matlock, brother Frank (Diane) Smith, sister Sue Vola, daughter Dana (Mike) Hollingsworth, son Tommy Vann. She is also survived by numerous grandchildren, nieces, nephews, family, friends, and a number of loving step children. Memorials may be made to Hepzibah Baptist Church.
