Martha Juanita "Nicki" Goodwin

83, of Birmingham, AL returned to be with her Lord Jesus Christ on Sunday, February 8, 2015.

Nicki is survived by her devoted husband, Aaron P. Goodwin of Birmingham, AL, loving daughters, Pamela Darlene (Pat) Klinker, Louisville, KY and Joni Gail (Brad) Bartlett, Hockley, TX; four step-children, Cindi Pannell, Greg (Pat) Goodwin, Randy Goodwin, and Lundi (Richard) Alderson, all from the Trussville, AL area; eleven grandchildren, and three great grandchildren.

Welcoming Nicki into heaven are her father Jesse, mother Bertha, brother, Rick, and sister, Bessie. She is survived by brothers "Silky" and Carl and sister, Sally.

Born in Tennessee on April 26, 1931, Nicki was a long time resident of Louisville, KY having relocated to Birmingham, AL nearly 40 years ago. She was a 30-year dedicated employee and retiree of Southwestern Bell Telephone, who rose from "the operator" position into management. Having moved to Alabama, she was a long-time and very active member of Springville Road Community Church. An avid horse racing fan, she loved the beach, telling stories and jokes, and would always "light up the room" with her infectious smile and laughter. She never met a stranger. For over the past year, she has been a resident of Kirkwood by the River Retirement Community, where she made many friends, particularly the awesome staff whom she grew to love. Most of all, she loved her family, her church, and the Lord. She will be forever missed and loved, but we take great comfort knowing that she is in the presence of her Savior.

All services will take place at the Jefferson Memorial Funeral Home & Gardens (1591 Gadsden Hwy, Trussville, AL 35235) Wednesday, February 11 at 10:00 AM. Visitation Tuesday 5:00-7:00 PM. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Kirkwood by the River Retirement Community or the American Heart Association.
