Marie Hicks

Marie Davis Hicks, a residence of Springville, Alabama: June 22, 1940 - April 23, 2020.

Ms. Hicks was the youngest of six children born to Henry Haelston Davis and Flora Belle Kersh Davis of Grand Bay, Alabama.

She was preceded in death by her husband Edgar L. Hicks, three brothers Robert Davis, William Davis, Gene Davis along with two sisters Mary Ann Davis Mahathy and Martha Nelle Davis Floore.

She is survived by two sons, Joseph F. Breighner, Jr (Janet) and Brian Scott Cornelius (Kristie). Grandchildren; Brent Breighner, Kristen Breighner Mullins (Keith), Ivan Cornelius, Reagan Cornelius, Canaan Cornelius and Courtney Breighner; Great Grandchildren; Ava Mullins, Isabella Breighner, Emma Mullins, Sophia Breighner and Mia Mullins as well as many nieces and nephews whom she loved dearly.

Although a long-time resident of Springville, Alabama, the last four years of her life, the Diversacare facility in Oneonta was her home. The staff at Diversacare provided wonderful care and love. The attention she received by the Diversacare staff and caregivers provided much comfort to the family. The family extends our heartfelt gratitude to each of you that loved on our Mom during her stay at Diversacare and especially during the final days of her life. She loved you all dearly.

Our Mom was a living miracle. An automobile accident over 40-years ago almost took her life. She suffered a severe head injury and lived the remainder of her life paralyzed on the right side of her body. Her resolve and determination allowed her to live a full life by overcoming her physical infirmity. On most days, she could be found working in her yard, cutting grass, trimming shrubbery and tending her flowers. She was strong, independent and required little help from anyone. She loved the outdoors. On pretty days at Diversacare, she could be found sitting in the courtyard enjoying fresh air and sunshine. She had an amazing work ethic and was an inspiration to those who knew her.

She was a member of Springville First Baptist Church where she attended and served until she could no longer participate.

Funeral Services will be a grave-side service held Monday, April 27, 2020 at 11:00 at Jefferson Memorial Funeral Home in Trussville, in the Field of Honor.
