Marian "Hap" B. McGilberry, age 78 of Birmingham, AL passed away on February 20, 2012. He graduated from Woodlawn High School in 1951 where he was a football player and a member of the Warblers. He was a member of the Birmingham Football Officials Association for 25 years best known as the "Umpire with a handlebar mustache." He was a veteran with the Army and the Marine Corp. He retired in 2005 from Bosworth Detailing in Springville, AL. He is survived by his wife of 57 years, Margaret Smith McGilberry of Birmingham, AL; daughter, Patricia Gabler (Gregory) of Center Point, AL; granddaughters, Ellen McNeeley of Springville, AL and Susan McNeeley of Cincinnati, Ohio; sister, Leona McGilberry Wollesen of Marietta, GA; numerous in-laws, nieces, and nephews. He is preceded in death by his father, James Bryant McGilberry, mother, Mary Jane Wordlaw McGilberry, Brother, James Thomas McGilberry, and recently his daughter, Marian McGilberry McNeeley.Visitation will be on Friday, February 24, 2012 from 12 to 2:00 PM at Jefferson Memorial Funeral Home. Services will follow at 2:00 PM in the chapel at Jefferson Memorial. Burial will be at Jefferson Memorial Gardens East. David Farry and James Boteler will be officiating over the services.
