Margaret Wetzel

Margaret Laster Wetzel passed away January 18, 2021. She was born in Birmingham, Alabama on March 3, 1933, the youngest in a close-knit family of seven sisters from Tarrant City, Alabama. After graduating from Tarrant High School in 1951, she began work for the City of Birmingham Police Department in their Legal Department. She was married in 1955 and lived and worked in Auburn, Alabama where her first son was born. She moved back to Birmingham, Alabama in 1959. She was a proud stay at home mom and went back to work for Motion Industries after her sons graduated from high school and left for college. After separating from her husband of many years, she found love and happiness with Norman Mosley who was lovingly known as “Papa” to her grandchildren. She retired after twenty years of service with Motion Industries in their accounting department. Margaret loved the outdoors and being at the beach and on the water and was an avid gardener. She also LOVED to fish. She was a member of East Lake United Methodist Church.

She was proceeded in death by her parents, Minette and Wilma Laster and five of her sisters and their husbands; Catherine Neugent (Lewis), Wanda Albers (John), Mitzi Laster, Ramsay Harless (Marvin) and Betty Morrow (Jack). She is survived in her immediate family by her two sons, Steven (Robin) and Glenn (Mary Beth), five grandchildren that LOVED their Mimi, Carleton Riser (Brian), Trevor, Lucy, Mary and Alden Jenkins (Jonathan) and one great granddaughter, Adelaide Bankston Riser.  She is also survived by her sister, Toni Godwin of Madison, Alabama. She will be missed dearly by her friends, her large family and many loving nieces and nephews.

There will be a graveside service at Jefferson Memorial Cemetery at 1pm on Tuesday, January 26, 2021. In lieu of flowers, memorials can be made in Margaret’s Memory to the Smile Train Organization, PO Box 96231, Washington, D.C. 20090-6231. You can also donate by phone at 1.800.932.9541.
