MARGARET H. REW, 86, of Birmingham, Ala. passed away in Charlotte, N.C. on Monday, Feb. 13, 2017. She was born in Birmingham on Sept. 24, 1930 and graduated from Sumter County High School in York, Ala., where she met her husband of 63 years, Milton "Mel" Levern Rew, whom she married in 1946. As a young wife and mother, Margaret worked tirelessly to put her husband through Auburn University and became a self-taught expert in etiquette and entertaining to support him throughout his distinguished career with DuPont, creating and maintaining a home for her family in each of their residencies around the globe including Northern Ireland, Holland, Belgium, Luxembourg, Norway, and Brazil. The Rews ultimately returned to their native Alabama and settled in the Birmingham area, where they were actively involved with the Homewood Church of Christ and Decatur Highway Church of Christ for many years. Among her many passions and talents, Margaret was known for her unparalleled eye for detail and indulged her artistic abilities with sewing, interior decorating, flower-arranging, painting and doll-making, creating beauty both inside and out that will forever be treasured by those who knew and loved her. She is survived by her two sons, Michael Rew and Stephen Rew, daughter Sandra Rew, and two grandchildren, Jason Rew and Stephanie Rew. Funeral arrangements will be held at noon on Saturday, Feb. 18 at Jefferson Memorial Funeral Home and Gardens, 1591 Gadsden Hwy, Birmingham, AL 35235. Visitation will be an hour prior to services.
