Margaret Carter

Margaret Ann Carter (known to all as Ann), beloved wife, mother, and grandmother, passed away on October 25, 2019. Ann was born November 12, 1940, in Birmingham, Alabama, to James and Thelma (Hyche) Grimsley. She graduated from Woodlawn High School (Birmingham) in 1959. She worked for South Central Bell and attended Hillcrest Baptist where she met and married her husband of 58 years, Billie Charles Carter. They were married on September 30, 1961. During their marriage, they lived in Mineral Wells, Texas; Enterprise, Alabama; and Birmingham, Alabama. She is survived by her husband; their two children Kenneth Charles Carter of Birmingham, Alabama, and Kimberly Ann Hancock (Wilburn) of Rock Hill, South Carolina; four grandchildren: Ian Carter, Zoe Carter, Luke Hancock, and Christopher Hancock; and her sister Doris Strazdus. She was preceded in death by her parents James and Thelma Grimsley, and four brothers: Bo, Jack, Billy, and Jerry. She was a devout and devoted Christian, and there is no doubt she is singing praises in her new home in Heaven. She was a member of Hilldale Baptist Church for more than 40 years and recently moved to First Baptist Church of Pinson, where she quickly became a beloved and active member. Ann had a beautiful soprano voice. She sang in the church choir, as well as performing solos at many weddings, funerals, and other special occasions through the years. She loved spending time with her children and grandchildren and cheering them on as they participated in sports, theater, and other performances. Put simply, she was their biggest fan and bragged on them to whoever would listen. She had a kind and giving spirit; she loved everyone, and everyone loved her. She enjoyed helping others, and it showed in all aspects of her life. She will be sorely missed by countless people who had the privilege of calling her "friend." A celebration of Ann's life will be October 29, 2019, at Jefferson Memorial Gardens in Trussville at 2 p.m. with Pastors David Awtrey and Ron Pate officiating. Visitation begins at 1 p.m. In lieu of flowers, help someone in need.
