Margaret Burks

d. March 1, 2012

Margaret Elizabeth (DeRoncey) Burks, 87, of Birmingham went home to be with the Lord Wednesday morning March 1st 2012 in Jacksonville Florida. She was born and raised in Birmingham along with her three brothers and three sisters and graduated from Phillips High School. She married Charles William (CW) Burks and they celebrated 61 years of marriage before his passing in 2009. Together they raised Charles Jr. (Chuck), David and Carol and were charter members of Faith Lutheran Church. She began her working career with Prudential and then stayed at home to raise their children. As the children grew up she went back to work at EB Erwin and became known as "The Bank Lady." Later she was able to utilize her exceptional math skills as the financial loan advisor for Jefferson State Junior College. After retirement CW and Margaret were longtime members of Jeff State's senior exercise group where they had many dear friends. Her passion was cooking and baking and anyone who knew her was a grateful recipient of her homemade goodies. She loved spending time with her family and was a second mom to many of her children's friends. Some of her fondest memories were of times spent at Logan Martin Lake with those she dearly loved. She will always be remembered for her kindness, servant heart and sweet temperament. Though unassuming and humble she greatly influenced those around her and will be truly missed. Margaret was preceded in death by her husband CW and son David. She is survived by her son Chuck of Lakeland, Fl; and daughter Carol B. (Richard) Smith of Jacksonville, Fl; and grandchildren Amber Pliscofsky, Lark Kelsey, James Burks, Mallory Miller, Katrina Roe, and Zachary Burks along with many great-grandchildren. The family will receive visitors at 9 am Tuesday March 6th at Jefferson Memorial Funeral Home. Funeral services will be held at 10 am with the burial following at Forest Hill Cemetery. Memorials may be made to Faith Lutheran Church, PO Box 427 Clay AL 35048. Jefferson Memorial Trussville directing
