Mae Ellen was born on August 24, 1914 in Jefferson County, Al, grew up in Gardendale, Al; became Mrs. John S. Bookout in Rising Fawn, Georgia; lived most of her adult life in the East Lake community of Birmingham; and moved to Clay, Al for the last 22 years of her life. She has touched and influenced a myriad of people throughout her life. Her teachings, cards, phone calls, gifts, "pop" visits, sweets and donations have encouraged and assisted uncountable people of all ages all over the world. She had a bond with young people and children, having great fun with them while giving guidance for their future. John and Mae's travels also provided an opportunity to bring an array of people into her life. To continue her beliefs, she has left family members of daughters, sons-in-law, a daughter-in-law, cousins of all generations, her precious grandchildren- their husbands and wife, and her great grandchildren, who were her special blessings. She also has left her church family from Lakewood, Eighty-fifth Street and Deerfoot Baptist Churches, pastors, ministers, and a plethora of friends, acquaintances, neighbors and buddies. She has left with appreciation, many caregivers, medical personnel, firemen, sheriff deputies and emergency workers, all of whom have given her assistance and encouragement in recent years.
