Luther Thomas Tatum, Jr.

Funeral Services for Mr. Luther Thomas Tatum, Jr., age 84 of Springville, will be held on Thursday, October 24, 2024 at 12:00 P.M. at Jefferson Memorial Funeral Home with Bro. Richard Harp officiating. Burial will follow in the adjoining gardens.

Thomas passed away on Saturday, October 19, 2024 at Colonel Robert L. Howard State Veterans Home. Thomas was born on February 4, 1940 to Luther T. and Faye Tatum, and he was the oldest of 3 children. He joined the United States Marine Corps just out of High school, until he was honorably discharged. He later married Shelba Jean Abel, then they started their family and Thomas “Tommy” was a devoted loving, caring husband to Shelba for 57 ½ years. An amazing father to his sons, Larry and Kelly, and a wonderful and proud grandfather to his four grandchildren. Thomas worked for Chicago Bridge for 30 years, then retired from SMI/CMC Steel after 10 years. Thomas was a lifetime member of Deerfoot Church of Christ and the United Steel Workers Association.

He is survived by his sons, Larry Tatum (Leslie) and Kelly Tatum (Angela), his grandchildren, Tanner Tatum (Taylor), Noah Tatum, Lindsey Tatum and Lana Tatum, his sister, Joy Burleson, and a host of numerous nieces, nephews and extended family.

He was preceded in death by the love of his life, his wife, Shelba Tatum, his younger brother, James Tatum, his parents, Luther T. and Faye Tatum, and his mother-in-law, Flora Abel.

Pallbearers will be Tanner Tatum, Noah Tatum, David McCullars, friends and family.

The family would like to thank the Doctors, Nurses, Aides and Staff at Colonel Robert L. Howard Veterans Home for all their care, love and compassion for our Dad and Papa while he was under their care.

Visitation will be held on Thursday, October 24, 2024 from 11:00 A.M. until service time at 12:00 P.M. at Jefferson Memorial Funeral Home.

In lieu of flowers, the family requests memorial donations be made to Deerfoot Church of Christ or to Colonel Robert L. Howard State Veterans Home in his memory.
