Lugine Cornelius

Lugine Umphrey Cornelius, aged 85, of Tuscaloosa and formerly of Birmingham, passed away on November 5, 2014. Lugine was born on June 21, 1929 in Eva, Alabama. She was a member of Bethel Presbyterian Church in Northport. Lugine enjoyed traveling and gardening with her husband, cooking, painting and ceramics.

She is preceded in death by her parents, Griffith and Lessie Umphrey, and sisters Evaline Cook and Vernell Elrod. Lugine is survived by her loving and devoted husband of 62 years, Ezell Cornelius of Tuscaloosa, her sons Keith Cornelius of Dallas (Jeannie), Doug Cornelius of Birmingham (Vickey) and her grandsons Alan Cornelius (Amy) of Atlanta and Chris Cornelius, a student at The University of Alabama. We are heart broken by her passing but find comfort in knowing that she is at peace. She was truly a loving wife, mother and Nana. She will be greatly missed by all those who knew and loved her. Her family would like to express its deepest thanks to the staff of Traditions Way and Capstone Village. The funeral service will be held at 12 PM on Saturday, November 8, at the Jefferson Memorial Funeral Home in Trussville with burial immediately following the service. The family will be receiving guests one hour before the service. The funeral service will be officiated by Rev. Mark McCormick, Rev. William Thetford and Rev. Dean Estes.
