Luan Atkins, age 73, of Cullman, Alabama, passed away at her home on Monday, October 14, 2024.
Luan Atkins was born on June 19, 1951, in Birmingham, Alabama, to the late Robert and Macey Atkins. A bright student, she graduated early from Phillips High School in 1967 at the age of 15. After graduation, Luan began her career at Liberty National before moving to Manhattan, where she spent nine transformative years. Her time in New York City was a defining chapter in her life and would remain among her most cherished memories. In 1983, Luan returned to Birmingham and began a career at Foster & Kleiser Advertising, where she worked for over 25 years. She enjoyed gardening and interior design, applying her impeccable taste and timeless style to both.
Luan will be best remembered for her vibrant personality, sharp sense of humor, and boundless love for those closest to her. As one friend fondly recalled, she was "dramatic in the best way." She was a devoted and loving mother to her daughter and son-in-law, and a proud Monnie to her three grandchildren. She cherished every moment spent with family, often sharing stories about her beloved cat, Sandy. Her infectious laugh will be missed by all who had the privilege of hearing it.
Luan is preceded in death by her parents, Robert and Macey Atkins, and brother, Bob Atkins.
Luan is survived by her daughter Megan (Kurt) Apel of Cullman, Alabama; three grandchildren, John Henry, Macey, and William. Brother, Tom (Vickie) Atkins. Sister-in-law, Chum Atkins. Nieces and nephews, Jeff (April) Atkins, Kelly (Trent) Paulk, Macey Atkins, Gunner and Ryder Atkins. Good friends Margaret Hitt, Brenda and Kenny Goodwin.
A private graveside service will be held for family. In lieu of flowers, the family suggests donations be sent to St. John's Evangelical Protestant Church, Mission 150, 512 Second Avenue SE, Cullman, Alabama 35055.
