We are here today to celebrate the beautiful life of Lorraine Geraldine (Lausterer) Walters. Lorraine was born in Honolulu, HI on December 27, 1930. She was the only daughter and fourth of seven children born to Ballard and Rose (Costa) Lausterer. Her family lived in Wahiawa near Schofield Barracks. She was 10 years old when on December 7, 1941 the base was bombed by the Japanese.
Lorraine was 16 years old when she met a handsome Air Force Airman, Douglas R. Walters, at a local drug store. They were married on September 18, 1947 and celebrated 67 years of marriage. For 26 years, they traveled and lived throughout the U.S and its territories. In 1969, Douglas was stationed in Sacramento, CA and Fair Oaks became their permanent home.
Lorraine loved her family and her home. She was known for her gardening and great cooking. She raised five daughters and spent many years traveling to their homes to help with her 13 grandchildren. She loved to bathe babies. Lorraine was lovingly known as Grandma-Grandma by her 13 great grandchildren. She also traveled many times to her beloved Hawaii to visit family and friends.
Lorraine was a proud conservative Republican who kept informed by listening to talk radio and watching Fox News. She also enjoyed watching reality TV. Her longevity can be credited in part to her advocacy of healthy living.
Lorraine passed away peacefully at home on July 30, 2016. She gracefully fought a long battle against cancer. She is survived by her husband Douglas R. Walters; five daughters, Audrey L Walters (H. Jason Redmond) of Trussville, Al, Nalani (Cissy) J. Walters (Patrick Layhee) of Sugarland, Tx, Avanette (Punkin) L. Walters (Anthony Aldebol) of Greeneville, SC, Tessie L. Walters (Ralphs) of Trussville, Al, Jennifer J. Walters (Joseph Ward) of Haymarket, Va; thirteen grandchildren and thirteen great grandchildren. She also has one surviving brother, Vernon O. Lausterer of San Diego, Ca.
Lorraine is greatly loved and missed by her family and friends. For the rest of our days we will remember a strong, beautiful woman who was our wife, mother, grandmother, great grandmother, sister and friend.
