Lois Nunn

Lois Heaton Nunn, age 91, passed away on September 20, 2015 in Tuscaloosa, AL. Lois was born in Gardendale on February 4, 1924. She was the third child, and oldest daughter born to Kimsey and Mary Heaton. Lois graduated from Mortimer Jordan High School in 1942, and married Leroy Nunn, a Private First Class in the U.S. Army, before he shipped off to fight in WWII. Leroy returned wounded, but safe from the war, and their only child, Richard, was born the following year. Lois worked at the Gardendale Post office from 1952 to 1987, and was appointed Post Master in 1971. She served the people of Gardendale as Post Master until her retirement. She was known for going out of her way to make sure mail delivery was prompt and dependable. She received letters of acknowledgement from the mayor of Birmingham, congressman, and Alabama state senator. Lois' hard work and dedication was known by all that knew her. She and her husband, Leroy, enjoyed their retirement by traveling the country, and visiting with family. Lois was preceded in death by her husband, Leroy, and their son, Richard. Lois showed great strength by carrying on after the loss of her two greatest loves. She is survived by her three grandchildren, seven great-grandchildren, her youngest sister, and several nieces and nephews. Funeral services will be held on Sunday, September 27, 2015 at Jefferson Memorial Funeral Home and Gardens in Trussville. The viewing will be at 1:00 p.m., followed by the chapel service at 2:00 p.m. Jefferson Memorial Trussville directing.
