Lillian Lockhart Melton, age 96, of Trussville, Alabama passed away on Monday, March 18, 2019. Mrs. Melton was born on March 13, 1923, in Eldorado, Illinois, to her late parents, Charles Lockhart and Leona Williams Lockhart. She was a member of The Greatest Generation, having lived through The Great Depression as well as World War II. In 1942, at age 19, Lillian rode a bus for five days to California, where she would marry the love of her life, Henry, before he was shipped to war for three years. Mrs. Melton worked as A Rosie the Riveter during the war. She repaired wiring on bombers, B-17's, and B-24's that had been damaged in combat. She would again offer her help as a Pink Lady volunteer at Medical Center East hospital in Birmingham, Al for thirty years. Lillian and Henry raised four sons together. She was a member of the First Baptist Church of Trussville, and devoted her life to Christ. Lillian was preceded in death by her loving husband, Henry H. Melton, brother; Charles Bobby Lockhart, sister; Mildred Anderson, sons Henry Randall Melton and Daniel Phillip Melton. Mrs. Melton is survived by her sister; Mrs. Mary Jo Alexander, Sons; Charles Michael Melton (Linda), Ronald Evans Melton (Sally). Grandchildren; Kevin Melton (Donyja), Ashley Collins (Paul). Great Grandchildren; Katie Topazi, William Collins, Makenzi Melton. Along with a host of nieces, nephews, and extended family and friends. Lillian was a writer, storyteller, and poet who truly lived life to it's fullest. Her life will be celebrated on Thursday, March 21, 2019 with a visitation at 1pm. Service will be held at Jefferson Memorial Gardens, 1591 Gadsden Highway, Birmingham, Al 35235 with graveside service to follow.
