Leon Hartzog of the Chelsea area left his earthly home on June 21, 2014 at the age of 76 to be joined with the Lord Jesus Christ in heaven. He was proud to say he grew up a rural farm boy in Barbour County, Alabama. He moved to Birmingham in his early twenties, where he worked for 50 years selling building materials. He retired from Alpha Lumber Company. He was an avid hunter and enjoyed many hunting trips with his buddies. He was a devoted husband, dad, papa, son, brother and brother-in-law. He is survived by his loving wife of 54 years, Jo Anne Hartzog; daughters, Leigh Welch (Randy) of Chelsea, AL and Cretia Cunningham (Rick) of Barbour Co., AL; grandchildren, Noel, Dal Edward and Lydia Welch, and Gabrielle Cunningham. He was preceded in death by his parents, Hubert and Ida Hartzog; and sister, Bernice Riddle. Knowing the he made a profession of faith and one day we will see him again, there was a celebration of his life and legacy he left behind. There was a graveside service held on Monday, June 23, 2014 at Jefferson Memorial Gardens East in Trussville, AL. The family would like to thank New Beacon Hospice and all the caregivers for the exceptional care they provided him during the last days of his life.
