Leon Flynn

Leon Thomas Flynn passed away on Saturday, January 27, 2024, at the age of 97 in Birmingham, AL.

He was born on August 27, 1926, in Lamar County Alabama. He is the son of the late Albert Austin Flynn and Mary Ada McDonald of Guin, Alabama. He lived in Birmingham, Alabama all his life.

Mr. Flynn was a World War II Veteran having served in the US Navy in the Pacific Theatre. After the Navy he worked for BEBCO (Birmingham Electric Battery Company) and became an award-winning top salesman for two consecutive years. He was an ordained deacon of Roebuck Plaza Baptist Church and sang bass in the church choir. He played the guitar and wrote tunes which he gladly performed for family and friends. Besides loving his country and gospel music, his interest were a master beekeeper, gardener, quail hunter, fisherman and Alabama football. He was a member of the Alabama Quail Hunters.

Mr. Flynn was preceded in death by his parents; his brothers, Clyde Flynn, Therman Flynn, Lucion Flynn and Cecil Flynn; his sisters, Edna Picket and Christine Collins.

Mr. Flynn is survived by his wife of 73 years, Joy Beard of Fayette, AL; daughter, Charlotte Joy Moncrief (Mike) of Decatur, AL; son, Samuel Leon Flynn (Amanda) of Springville, AL; grandchildren, Peter Moncrief (DK) of Decatur, AL, Rachel Perkins (Chris) of Baileyton, AL and great grandchildren, Caleb Perkins, Tabitha Perkins, Gabriel Moncrief, Gideon Moncrief and Alex Moncrief.

“Let not your heart be troubled; believe in God, believe also in me. In my father’s house are many rooms; If it were not so, would I have told you that I go to prepare a place for you? And when I go and prepare a place for you, I will come again and will take you to myself, that where I am you may be also.”

Graveside services will be on Friday, February 2, 2024 at 10 AM at Jefferson Memorial Gardens East, in Good Shephard, 1591 Gadsden Hwy, Birmingham, AL 35235.
