Chapman, Leon Curtis, age 93, of Pinson, AL passed away peacefully August 9, 2011 following a battle with esophageal cancer. He joins his beloved wife of 71 years, Robert Virginia Sides Chapman in their heavenly home. In addition to his wife, he was preceded in death by his parents William Lawrence and Mattie Lee Chapman; and his brothers W.E. Chapman, Henry B. Chapman, A.G. Chapman, J.C. Chapman, Melvin Chapman and Roy Joe Chapman. He leaves to cherish and honor his memory his sons Robert C. (June) Chapman of Cropwell, AL, T. Ronald (Andrea) Chapman of LaFayette, LA, Frederick D. (Patsey) Chapman of Pinson, AL and William R. (Chris) Chapman of Huntsville, AL; his brother Herman Chapman of Opelika, AL; his sisters Irma Ford of Lineville, AL, Lillie Dean Love of Lineville, AL, and Alma Rea Hill of Aiken, SC; seven Grandchildren and seven great grandchildren; and numerous nieces and nephews. A native of Lineville, AL, he worked in numerous states (AL, CA, IL, KY, NY, OH, SC, TN) throughout his career and retired from the California Department of Water Resources as an Electrical Inspecting Engineer. Following retirement, he moved to Pinson, AL where he and his wife became full time volunteers with the St. Vincent's East (Medical Center East) Hospital Auxiliary working in the Crossover Shop and Lobby Gift Shop for many years. He was a member of the Pinson United Methodist Church, East Lake Lions Club, East Lake Masonic Lodge No.480, Valley of Birmingham A&A Scottish Rite of Freemasonry, Shriners International Zamora Temple, a 60 year member of IBEW and a Life Member of the St. Vincent's East Hospital Auxiliary. His life was devoted to God and Family and his joy in life along with his wife was raising four successful sons. A special joy later in life was his time with grandchildren, great grandchildren, and his dog Harley. The Family wishes to express special thanks to Dr. David Bryant, Comfort Care Hospice, William R. Chapman Jr., and special angel Kristine Kenna who cared for him in his final days. Visitation will be held on Friday Aug 12, from 11am until 12pm at Jefferson Memorial Funeral Home, Trussville, AL with chapel services at 12pm with Rev. Bob Murray officiating. Internment will follow in Jefferson Memorial Gardens East. In lieu of flowers donations can be made to St. Vincent's Foundation designated to Robert C. Chapman Endowment Fund or to St. Vincent's East Hospital Auxiliary Fund (50 Medical Park East Drive, Birmingham, AL 35235) or to Pinson United Methodist Church (4507 Bud Holmes Road, Pinson, AL 35126).
