Lee Evelyn Vandever Vaughan, age 102, passed away peacefully at home on Friday, July 3, 2020. LeeLee, as she was affectionately known by many, was the 5th of 6 children and the fifth girl born to Hugh F. and Virgie Armstrong Vandever. During her senior year in high school, she began dating a young man from the local CC Camp. After graduating high school, she entered nursing school, but, after 5 months, those plans came to an end when she decided to accept the “now or never” offer of marriage from that young man. When she left the school, the comment was made by one of the administrators, “It won’t last 6 months.” She was right. It lasted almost 1,000 months—over 82 years. LeeLee obeyed the gospel of Christ as a teenager and was baptized in a pond. She was able to attend worship services past 99 years of age and was a member of the Edwards Lake church of Christ at the time of her death. She was, until the end, forever grateful for God’s gift of salvation and never ceased to be thankful for all the blessings He had blessed her with in her life. Left behind to cherish her memory are her loving and faithful husband, Howard Vaughan; her loving daughter, Pamela Vaughan Anderson Penrod; and two granddaughters, 7 great-grandchildren, and 6 great-great grandchildren. One granddaughter preceded her in death. Truly a Proverbs 31 woman and a “steel magnolia” with a gentle spirit, LeeLee will be sorely missed by all who knew and loved her. She would remind us all to be sweet. If you wish to honor LeeLee with a remembrance, the family suggests donations to a charity close to your heart. Due to the pandemic, the service and burial will be private and for family only.
