Judith Blount “Judy” Morgan, of Moody, Alabama, died peacefully at home on Tuesday, January 31, 2023, after suffering with multiple health challenges. Judy was born on August 10, 1945, to Charles Willard and Artie Mae Henley Blount in Russellville, Alabama. While she was still a child, the family moved to Birmingham, where she eventually attended and graduated from Woodlawn High School. In 1963, she began the adventure of her lifetime when she married a young Coast Guard recruit, John “Jerry” Morgan. The newlyweds lived briefly outside the Birmingham area, but eventually returned and reared their three children just east of the city. From 1985 onward, they based their lives in Moody.
Vocationally, Judy dedicated her life to the care of children, operating The Growing Place home daycare for 35 years. She was known as “Miss Judy” to innumerable children and their parents, many of whom would say they feel her investment and influence in their lives to this day.
Judy loved her family. She loved being a Nana. She also loved gold shoes, travel, gardening, the color red, word puzzles, Pop Tarts, and Halloween decor. She disliked hearing loss, and baked beans. She believed in the power of prayer. She was a long-time member of Community Presbyterian Church.
Judy is survived by Jerry, her husband of 59 years; a son, Steven (Laura Leigh); a daughter, Laura Kay (Steve); five grandchildren; and two great grandchildren. She also leaves behind four siblings – Don Blount (Patsy); Martha Shaw (Donnie); Wayne Blount (Leigh); Bonnie Atkins (Jack) – and many other extended family members.
Judy was preceded in death by her parents; a brother (Charles Blount); a son (Michael Andrew Morgan); and a grandson (Aden John Morgan).
The family will receive friends on Saturday, Feb. 4, at 11 am at Jefferson Memorial Funeral Home and Gardens in Trussville, Alabama. A service celebrating her life will follow at noon with Rev. Burt Boykin officiating. Donations to St. Jude Children’s hospital may be made in lieu of flowers.
