Ruby Juanita Kuykendall Currie, 85, of Clay passed away peacefully in her home surrounded by family on Christmas day after a long term illness. Mrs. Currie loved her family dearly. She was a devoted wife, mother, grandmother, great grandmother and sister. She was a member of Deerfoot Baptist Church, Trussville, AL. She loved singing, playing and teaching piano. Mrs. Currie grew up on Sand Mountain in Albertville, Alabama. She was a 1949 Albertville High School graduate and went onto graduate from Providence School of Nursing in Mobile, Alabama in 1954. She worked at Providence Hospital and later at Mercy Hospital, New Orleans, LA as a Registered Nurse where she found joy caring for premature babies. At one time, Mrs. Currie enjoyed singing solos and being a part of a singing trio at church. She was constantly heard singing and playing the piano in the home and at holidays. After her children were grown, she began teaching piano to all ages at various community schools and in her home. In retirement, she cherished spoiling her grandchildren. Mrs. Currie was preceded in death by her husband of 49 years, William Carl Currie; little sister, Deane Kuykendall and parents, Arthur and Esther Kuykendall. She is loved and survived by daughters, Sarah Snell (Tony), of Mobile, AL, Jaira Ward (Steve), Myra Roberts (Darryl) and son, Bill Currie; and grandchildren, Ben Ward, Danielle Deerman (Jon), Julian Currie, Sarah Kepley (Jake) of Madison, AL, Jon Ward, Tim Ward, Anna Snell of Mobile, AL Hannah Ward, Will Snell of Mobile, AL, Justin Currie, Joe Ward; and great grandchildren, Beckett and Bryce Kepley; sisters, Lorene Cochran, Marjorie Jones and Boots Cochran of Albertville, AL, as well as, many loved in-laws, nieces and nephews. Mrs. Currie's family thanks Hope Hospice for their wonderful caring staff specifically, their precious nurses, Kay Gurley, Stephanie Ritch and Brianna Wade who demonstrated Christ's love by genuinely loving her and ministering to her health with singing and laughter, as well as, ministering and supporting the family. Special appreciation goes to Luann Ruth, Antoinette Halsey, Dreama Calhoun and Theresa Fleming for their sweet loving care giving, ministering to her health and creating laughter for/with her and supporting the family. You all were a blessing to mom and our family and we consider you our family.
The family will receive visitors, Thursday, December 29, 2016 from 12:00pm to 2:00pm with funeral following at 2:00pm at Jefferson Memorial Funeral Home, Trussville, AL. Graveside service will follow at Jefferson Memorial. Ken Kelley and nephew, Gary Cochran, will be officiating. Mrs. Currie loved flowers, however, in lieu of flowers donations may be made to The Leukemia /Lymphoma Society or the American Diabetes Association.
