On Wednesday, January 20, 2021 Joseph Howard "Josey" Walter, age 26 passed away peacefully in his sleep. Joseph had been dealt a terrible debilitating disease called Pompe. This disease had him on a ventilator for 22 years, yet he still got up every day and got on his computer and led a very happy life. Joseph never let his disease be his life. He always treated others as if their problems were bigger than his. Anyone who met Joseph came away feeling better because of his funny and compassionate spirit. He loved his computer, his animals especially, Holly, his family and people. He was an elegant writer and was working on a science fantasy book. He graduated from Clay-Chalkville High School in the top 20 of his class and received a full scholarship to Kaplan University. He will be sorely missed by everyone. He is survived by his mother, Debbie and brother, Jonathan; aunts, Linda Whitley (Gene), Becky Palmer (Jeff) and cindy McCown. He is also survived by many cousins, He was preceded in death by his father, Bo, brother, Jeremy and both set of grandparents. Debbie and the family would especially like to thank the following people who also loved Joseph; Fireman of Clay and Center, Point 911 operators, Children's Hospital, UAB House Calls, Donna Slayton and the vent team, Dr. Steven Barron, Dr. J. P. Clancy, Dr. Barry Byrne, Dr. Ashley Nichols, Meggan Sharp, Clay Chalkville Teachers, Pam Smith, who was his special teacher grades 1-12, especially Miss Ora his nurse and all other nurses who have passed through Joseph's life and the special "Christmas Groups" who brought him such joy and happiness.
