Joseph Wilson Peace (Joe), 97, passed away Wednesday, December 11, 2024, after a brief illness. He was born August 13, 1927, to the late Grady C. Peace and Clara W. Peace in Archdale, North Carolina. He was a graduate of Trinity High School. He began work as a knitting machine operator of full-fashioned hosiery at Adams Mills in High Point, North Carolina in 1944. Joe joined the US Navy in 1945 on the day the atomic bomb was dropped. He served on the USS LST 610 in the Asiatic Pacific area.
Joe eventually went to work for Wilson Foods in High Point, North Carolina. He began as a salesman and later became the plant manager. In 1969, Joe and his family made the move to Alabama where he became manager of the Wilson Foods plant in downtown Birmingham.
Joe was a devoted husband, father, grandfather and friend. He never met a stranger, and nothing brought him more joy than getting to know people. He loved to talk and took a genuine interest in learning about everyone he met. He was definitely a "people" person. To know Joe Peace was to be loved by him.
Joe was married to his wife, Lib, for 65-1/2 years. They spent many loving years together enjoying travels and activities with their children and grandchildren. She was his angel "on loan" here on earth. It was his desire to always be there to take care of her. Following her death, Joe stayed active. He was blessed to join the Trussville Senior Center where he made many friends. He loved joining them daily for exercise, lunch and fellowship. He also remained active at Huffman United Methodist Church where he was a member for 55 years. The family would like to thank the many friends from church and the center that assisted with transportation after he stopped driving.
Joe was preceded in death by his wife, Lib, his parents, Grady and Clara Peace, and his sister Rene Simpson (Rex.)
He is survived by his sons Steve Peace (Darla) of Trussville, Alabama; Tom Peace (Cherie) of Nashville, Tennessee; daughter, Lori Peace, of Trussville, Alabama. and his two loving grandchildren, Kimberly Peace and Kyle Peace. He is also "Uncle Joe" to several nephews and a niece.
Funeral services will be held Monday, December 16, 2024 at Jefferson Memorial Gardens in Trussville with visitation beginning at 1030am and services following at noon.
In lieu of flowers, the family would ask that you make donations to Huffman United Methodist Church or the charity of your choice.
