Joseph Lee Lemons, 80 passed away on June 4, 2009. He was preceded in death by his parents, James A. Lemons and mother Vancie Alexander Lemons, his brother William Andrew Lemons Sr. He is survived by his wife, Frances Maddox Lemons; his daughter, Tammy Lemons Tingle (Lloyd); his step daughter, Patricia Johnson Momenee (Jim); four grandchildren, Jacob Tingle (Holly), Jessica Ward (Mark), Lisa and Scott Gardner; one great-grandchild, Tyler Tingle; one nephew, three great nieces, one sister in law and his best buddy, China, his dog.
Joe was a native of Birmingham, attended Phillips High School, and was a Staff Sgt in the U.S. Air Force. He worked in his family grocery business, Lemons Food Center, for many years and was a member of Associated Grocers; created and marketed his own line of home pest control products, Green Cross. He and his brother Bill were early pioneers in the convenience store concept with 21 Handi-Pac locations in the late 60's and early 70's. He ended his work career at Pioneer Food Service. Joe was a member of Center Point United Methodist Church, Dolcito Masonic Lodge and one of the most loyal Crimson Tide fans to ever enter Bryant-Denny Stadium. Visitation will be held on Friday, June 5, 2009 beginning at 11:00 AM with chapel services beginning at 12:00 Pm with Jim Clifford and Joan Pinson officiating. Burial to follow in Jefferson Memorial Gardens East. Jefferson Memorial Trussville directing.
