Hon. Joseph J. Jasper, died on February 3, 2024. He was born in Wheeling West Virginia, on July 16, 1927.
After two separate stints in the United States Navy, with which he served during both WWII and the Korean War, Joe graduated the University of Alabama School of Law, and began his law practice in Birmingham, AL. in 1954. By 1958, he was a municipal Judge for the City of Trussville, and later served as a municipal Judge for the City of Birmingham. Gov. Albert Brewer appointed him as Circuit Judge in Jefferson County in 1969, and he later became the presiding Judge of Criminal Division. During his tenure as Circuit Judge, he served as President of the Alabama Association of Circuit Judges, and he presided over many high-profile criminal cases until his retirement in 1991.
He is predeceased by his first wife and the mother of his four children, Beatrice Lancaster Jasper, and is predeceased by his son Joseph Norman Jasper, and his brother Dr. James Michael Jasper. He is survived by his current wife Martha Bolton Jasper, and his three daughters, Mary Ann Noble, Debi Jasper Walker (Norm), and Lisa Matthews (Ben). He is also survived by his granddaughter Lindsey Matthews, his Grandsons Samuel Noble, Jr. (Kadi), and Jimmy Matthews, and by his Great Granddaughter Eloise Noble.
Anyone who knew him would be struck by his authentic warmth, his ability to tell an interesting story, his sharp wit and intellect, and his devotion to his family and his beloved Catholic Church. His presence brightened the lives of those around him.
A funeral service will be held on Thursday, February 8th, 2024 at 12:00 PM at Jefferson Memorial Funeral Home in Trussville. In lieu of flowers, the family suggests donations to the charity of your choice. The family will receive friends for visitation at the funeral home from 11:00 AM until the time of service.
