Joseph Samuel Hollingsworth, Jr., age 89 of Trussville, Ala., passed away on January 19, 2016. After graduating from Hewitt-Trussville High School class of 1944, he enlisted in the United States Army Air Corps and was proud to serve his country. He worked for the railroad for 40 years, retiring from CSX at age 62. Known as a hard worker, he owned Holly's Gravel and Stone for many years and never retired from work. Mr. Hollingsworth is most remembered for his love and devotion for the Lord. He was a faithful member of East Lake Bible Methodist Church for over 60 years. He was active in Gideons International for many years and considered their mission of distributing Bibles to be vitally important. He enjoyed travelling and visiting friends at church meetings around the country.
Mr. Hollingsworth is preceded in death by his wife of 58 years, Mazie Virginia Massey Hollingsworth; parents Joseph Samuel Hollingsworth, Sr., and Arrelia Mary Jane Wilson Hollingsworth; and his sister, Mildred H. Smith. He is survived by his son, Dr. Samuel F. Hollingsworth; daughter, Dr. Jane Hollingsworth Capone (Michael); grandchildren, Sarah H. Persons (Matt), Leah H. Bidner (Adam), Nina L. Hollingsworth, Rebecca C. Johnson (Tim) and Joseph M. Capone (Lisa); great-grandchildren, Alec Bidner, Virgina Claire Persons and Mazie Grace Johnson.
Services will be on Friday, January 22 at 2 PM at Jefferson Memorial Funeral Home. Visitation will be an hour prior to services. Rev. Jeremy Fuller, Rev. Rick Yancey and Rev. Darrell Stetler will be officiating. In lieu of flowers donations may be made to Gideons International. Jefferson Memorial Trussville directing.
