Johnnie John B. Key, 89, of Trussville, AL passed away on October 1, 2019. John was born in Walker County, AL to Benjamin Franklin Key and Emma Jenkins Key on June 25, 1930. He served two years in the U.S. Army before he was honorably discharged as a Sergeant in 1954. He was a longtime member of Hillview Church of Christ where he served as an elder of the church. He enjoyed hunting and fishing. He retired from Northport Health Care Services after serving as Director of Purchasing. John was preceded in death by his parents, infant brother, Aaron Key and his three sisters, Lucille Key, Christine Busby and Emma Jean Hollingsworth. John is survived by his loving wife of 63 years, Shirley W. Key; son, Richard Key (Lynn); daughter, Reba Oglesby (Terry); grandchildren, Ashley Townley, Laura Fulbrook (David), Rebecca Oglesby, Jonathan Oglesby and Catherine Oglesby; brothers, Norman Key (Marie) and Ed Key. John is also survived by numerous nieces and nephews and extended family. A funeral service for John will be held at 2:00 p.m. on Thursday, October 3rd at Jefferson Memorial Funeral Home Chapel. Visitation will be held one hour prior to the service. Burial will immediately follow at Jefferson Memorial's adjoining gardens. The family requests that in lieu of flowers please send donations to the Parkinson's Foundation or the American Heart Association.
