John Robert Wingard, born May 2, 1920 in the town of River Falls in Covington County, the first of five children of Harlan and Lula Mae Wingard, went to his Lord and Savior Jesus Christ on March 17, 2012. John was a very humble man who loved life and whose ambition in life was to follow the teachings of his Lord both inside and outside the home. He loved his country and served four years in the Navy during the Second World War. He was an accountant after the war retiring from Baker and Sons Dairy in Birmingham. He was preceded in death by his parents Harlan Dewey and Lula Mae Wingard of Birmingham and his brother Lamar Wingard of Mobile. He is leaving his loving wife of 64 years Ermis Carpenter Wingard, his three sons Robert Therron Wingard (Carol), David Russell Wingard (Joyce), and Keith Marlin Wingard (Joyce), eight grandchildren, Matthew Wingard (Lacy), Jared Wingard (Dawn), Nathan Wingard, Natalie Bohannon (Kyle), Andrew Wingard (Brooke), Stephanie Williamson (Temple), Holley Wingard, and Zachary Wingard (Leah), seven great grandchildren, two brothers, Billie and Walter Wingard and one sister Ina Norton. Funeral services will be held Monday, March 19, at 2:00 pm at Jefferson Memorial Funeral Home with visitation one hour before. Graveside services will be at Jefferson Memorial Gardens following funeral. The family requests that in lieu of flowers memorials be made to South Roebuck Baptist Church or a charity your choice. The family would like to give special thanks to the staffs of Horizons Private Duty Care and Affinity Home Hospice Services.
