John Stephens, 66, of Trussville, Alabama passed away peacefully at home surrounded by family on Sunday, July 6, 2014. John grew up in Hokes Bluff, Alabama and graduated from Hokes Bluff High School in 1966. On a career path that led him first to a job in the FBI and later to work as an air traffic controller, his greatest success came in the automotive collision repair industry. For many years he owned and operated John Stephens Auto Paint and Body, from which he retired in 2002. In retirement he enjoyed a life full of activity, from farm work and beekeeping to beach vacations and rounds of golf. He is preceded in death by his parents, John Berry and Mary John Stephens, brother Warren Stephens, in-laws James Luther and Lula Mae Roberts. He leaves behind his wife Dorothy, sons Cary (Amy) and Craig (Jenn), grandsons Joseph and Magnum, sister-in-laws Janie (Danny) Stults, Lynda Ryals, Doris Sherman and numerous nieces and nephews. Well-loved and profoundly admired, John was regarded as a rock of dependability among his family and friends. Though he will be dearly missed, it brings us great peace to know that he is celebrating eternal life. Chapel services will be held on Thursday, July 10, at 2pm with visitation from 11am until 2pm. Brother Bob Smith will officiate the services. Memorials may be made at any PNC Bank for the grandchildren's college fund. Jefferson Memorial Funeral Home, 1591 Gadsden Hwy Birmingham, AL 35235
