John Shoemaker

SHOEMAKER, JOHN JR., age 87, of Birmingham, passed away August 10, 2010. He was a member of Springdale Baptist Church for 46 years where he served as a deacon. He was a veteran of World War II and the Korean War. He was proudly present for the Honor Flight to Washington DC in 2009 for the WW II US Army Veterans. He worked as a building contractor for many years and also had homes that he built that qualified for the Parade of Homes where he received a medal. He was preceded in death by his parents John and Myrtle Shoemaker, Sr. and his sister Edna McGinnis. Services will be Friday, August 13, at Noon in the Chapel with burial in Jefferson Memorial Gardens East. Brother Winston McNeil and Brother Fred R. Donovan officiating. Visitation will be from 10:30am until service time Friday. He is survived by his wife Darlene Shoemaker, daughter Carolyn Shoemaker, sister Betty, brother Paul Shoemaker, his babies Toby, Chen and Kim, several nieces and nephews.
