John Joseph Coyne, Jr., was born December 18, 1933, to Bertha and John Coyne, Sr. in Natick, Massachusetts, and died at the age of 91 on March 9, 2025.
He enlisted in the US Air Force at the age of 17 and served a combined total of 26 years in the Air Force and the Alabama Air National Guard. He retired as a Senior Master Sergeant in December 1995.
John married his bride, Mary Ellen LeCoy, on September 9, 1953. Together they walked through life hand in hand for 71 years.
John’s lifelong love of sports began in high school where he played baseball, football, basketball, and hockey. As an adult, he coached baseball and football and served as a positive influence for hundreds of boys in Center Point, Alabama. John enjoyed cheering for the Boston Red Sox and his beloved Alabama Crimson Tide.
John had a servant’s heart and was instrumental in leading many community activities in Springville, Alabama, where he also proudly served on the city council for 13 years.
John was predeceased by his parents and his siblings, Janet, Margie, Mary, Rita, and Charles. He cared deeply for his family and is survived by his wife, Mary, his children, Rich (Kathy), Sandy (Bob), Rob (Debbie), and Ron (Lisa), 7 grandchildren, and 8 great grandchildren. He will be deeply missed.
