(Willie) Joan Standridge Foster

Born in Rosa, Blount County, Alabama to a sharecropper, Gertis Otis Standridge and mother, Willie Belle Wilson Standridge; Joan was the 6th child of 9. She moved with her family to Ruffner Rd. in Birmingham, Jefferson County, Alabama at around 4 years old. She graduated in 1964 from Hewitt-Trussville High School and married Frederick Phillips Foster on Aug 12, 1967 at Ruffner Valley Baptist Church. She spent many years with Shoney's South Inc. and Acosta Sales & Marketing as office manager until she retired in 2003. Her favorite work and place to be was in the garden, a love she shared with her mother along with quilting. She enjoyed watching Alabama Football with Fred and continued that tradition with her youngest grandson, Lucas. She was an avid reader and loved reading to all of her grandchildren; Joseph, Jaden, Connor, and Lucas.
She was preceeded in death by her husband, her parents and her brothers, Bobby, Billy, Jimmy, and Carl.
She is survived by her son, Rick Foster (Merinda); her daughter, Vicki Foster; four grandchildren, Joseph Foster (Brittany), Jaden Gallahar, Connor Foster, and Lucas Foster; her siblings Doris Parvin, Jerry Standridge (Nathany), Phillip Standridge, and Kathy Keeley (Tom) and a host of nieces and nephews.
Family and friends visitation will be held Wednesday, Oct. 25th at 11:00 am at Jefferson Memorial in Trussville followed by funeral service in the chapel at 12:00 noon officiated by Bros. Kieth Owens and James Aycox. There will be no graveside service. We will dismiss from the chapel and everyone is welcome to join us at New Life Christian Assembly in Dora for food and fellowship.
