Jinnie Truthan

August 16, 1946 — May 15, 2018

Jinnie Lou Fitch Lawson Truthan (age 71) passed peacefully in Spokane, WA after a lengthy battle with cancer on May 15, 2018 in the company of her husband Jeffrey Truthan, her daughter Beth Lawson, her son Thom Lawson, and her Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ. Jinnie was born in Flint, MI on 8/16/1946 to her parents Cyril Clifford Fitch (deceased) and Nola Virginia Fitch (deceased). Her first marriage (1964) was in Flint, MI to Arthur Euneil Lawson. They lived in multiple locations before settling in Birmingham, AL where she raised her children. During Art’s extended illness and after his passing in February 1987, she earned multiple degrees, often Summa Cum Laude, in Office Administration and Business Management (AAS) at Jefferson State Junior College, Counseling (BS) at Samford University, and Rehabilitation Counseling (M.Ed.) at the University of Alabama at Birmingham. She married Jeffrey Truthan in 2008 and relocated to Spokane, WA. An avid fan of Alabama football, her short stature never impeded her work as a medical case manager, self-employed rehabilitation counselor and vocational disability expert. Her brilliance, insight, warmth, welcoming manner, infectious laugh, and humor shone unforgettably in both her professional (International Association of Rehabilitation Professionals) and her personal life. She was a mentor and close friend to so many; a superhero to her children. She volunteered in many civic capacities, notably Girl Scouts (1973-1998), MENSA (1992-2017), and various leadership and singing roles in churches in Birmingham and Spokane. She is survived by her daughter Beth and grandson Bryn Bennett, her son Thom and grandson Ian, and her husband Jeffrey Truthan. Memorial service to be held at Jefferson Memorial, 1591 Gadsden Hwy, Birmingham, AL on 7/14/2018 at 3 pm. Memorial contributions to http://friendsofcampcoleman.com to preserve its camping heritage.
