Jimmy Drayton Cherry, passed away April 6, 2013. he was born in Pinson, AL on October 27, 1935 to John Cherry and Nannie McCay Cherry. He was a member of Pinson United Methodist Church, a Past master of Mount Pinson Lodge No 495 F.&A.M. and was retired from US Pipe and Foundry after 39 1/2 years. He was a precious, loving husband and father. His life was God and his family. He is survived by his wife of 59 years, Billie Chandler Cherry, his children Susan Ogles (Rossville, GA), Ann and Mike Jones (Spanish Fort, AL), Nancy Rowe (Locust Fork, AL), Jay and Lisa Cherry (Sartell, MN) and Jada Nygren (Fultondale, AL), 15 grandchildren, 11 great grandchildren, and 1 great great grandson, 1 sister-in-law, Lottie Cherry (Pinson, AL), 9 nephews, 3 nieces and a host of friends. His pallbearers will be all his sons and grandsons. Visitation will be held Monday, April 8, from 6-8 PM at Jefferson Memorial Funeral Home, 1591 Gadsden Highway, Birmingham, AL 35235. Viewing will be on Tuesday, April 9, 2013 from 10AM-12PM with service starting 12 PM at Pinson United Methodist Church, 4507 Bud Holmes Road, Pinson, AL 35126. Burial will be in the adjoining cemetery. We want to give thanks to all the doctors who cared for him, especially Dr. David Bryant, Dr. Alan Vines, Dr. Maddox and Dr. Brian. We also want to say a very special thank you to the amazing and compassionate staff at St. Vincent's East in the Medical Intensive Care Unit who gave him special care.
