Paul Wright was born and raised in Decaturville, Tennessee, the son of the late Jesse Crawford Wright and Fronia Brigance Wright. After serving, during World War II, as a gunner in A20 aircraft in the U.S. Army Air Corps, 5th Air Force, he returned to Tennessee and married Maxine Scott on August 30, 1947. The couple moved to Birmingham in 1953 where he attended UAB at night. He worked for thirty years as accountant for Farmers & Ginners Cotton Oil Company, retiring as Vice-President, followed by ten years part-time accounting for Gantt Flooring in Woodlawn before his final retirement. Paul was a long-time member and deacon of 85th Street Baptist Church and deacon emeritus of Deerfoot Baptist Church. He is survived by his wife, Maxine; sons James Edwin Wright (Marcia) of Trussville and D. Scott Wright (Sarah) of Mobile; daughters Paula Shivers (David) of Atlanta and Bethany Warren (Terry) of Charlotte; grandchildren Alice Wright Lawley (Perry), Daniel Shivers, Alex Warren, and Zach Warren; and one great-grandchild, Wilson Lawley. Paul had two sisters, Iona Wright Welch of Centerpoint and the late Hazel Wright Jones. Paul was a gentle and generous man who will be fondly remembered by his innumerable friends. Services will be on Tuesday, May19, 2015 at 11:00 AM at Jefferson Memorial Funeral Home. Visitation will be an hour prior to services. The burial will follow at Jefferson Memorial Gardens East.
