Jesse Edward "Eddie" Oldham, age 59, of Birmingham, passed away October 1, 2011. Eddie was raised in Tarrant and spent 25 years as a history teacher and coach at Tarrant High School. He began the girls' basketball team in the early eighties, went on to coach boys B team and varsity basketball along with serving as an assistant coach for the football team. Eddie was a wonderful history teacher whose former students will remember his yellow bat, swinging his coach's whistle, and singing history related songs such as "The Battle of New Orleans". Jessica and Megan remember singing "Puff the Magic Dragon" and "Yea, Alabama", collecting baseball cards and autographs, trips to Gulf Shores and eating Oreos after a late ball game. Services will be Tuesday Oct 4 at Noon in the Jefferson Memorial chapel with burial in Highland Memorial Gardens in Bessemer. Visitation will be from 10am until 12pm Tuesday. Eddie was preceded in death by his mother Ada Lillian Oldham and his grandparents. He is survived by his father Raymond Oldham, wife Darlene, daughters Megan Oldham, Jessica (Brandon) Nichols, grandson Zachary Nichols, sister Nadine (Terry) Stack, brother John (Sandra) Oldham, many nieces and nephews. Memorial donations may be made to Children's of Alabama Foundation to be used for expenses that families of transplant patients incur during the wait for an organ.
